Robert (Bob) Rankine ’58: Friends for a lifetime

Brother Bob Rankine recently shared this biographical sketch so fellow Delts could chart the interesting path his life has followed since his days at the house in the 1950s:

Bob retired as a Major General from the US Air Force in 1992.  His Air Force career included the acquisition of military space systems and the management of the Air Force’s science and technology program.

He then worked in the aerospace industry for eight years, retiring (again) in 2000 from Hughes Space & Communications Company where he was vice president of government marketing.

After leaving Hughes, Bob and his wife, Sherry, moved to Florida and have lived in the Tampa Bay area for 23 years.

Bob received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois in 1958.  He added a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology in 1964 and a doctorate in engineering from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1970.

Bob was born in Chicago, Illinois.  He and his wife, Sherry, live in Safety Harbor, Florida.

Of the lasting impact of his fraternity experience, Bob reflects: “My Delt brothers have been friends that have lasted a lifetime.”
